Daniel Radcliffe is Alan Strang in “Equus”, West End, 2007; Broadway, 2008.
After blinding six horses with a hoof pick, seventeen year old Alan Strang is sent to a psychiatric hospital, in the hopes that psychiatrist Martin Dysart (played by Dan’s Harry Potter co-star Richard Griffiths) can work out what drove Alan to carry out the attack on the creatures he so adores.
A intensely moving and thought-provoking piece of theatre, Equus marked the beginning of Dan’s transition to a respected adult actor. He now credits Equus with opening the door for him to other roles, such as Allen Ginsberg in Kill Your Darlings.
Equus opened in the West End in February 2007 for a fourteen week run, and then transferred to Broadway in September 2008. Dan never missed a show, appearing in over 250 performances between the two productions.
