Dan signs up for a second series of A Young Doctor’s Notebook; first series to air in the US this Autumn

Playhouse-Presents-A-Young-Doctors-Notebook-2

Following the success of last year’s A Young Doctor’s Notebook, Dan and co-star Jon Hamm have signed up to reprise their characters in a second series, A Young Doctor’s Notebook and Other Stories.

The story returns to the small, country hospital of the first series, and finds The Young Doctor battling his morphine addiction under the critical gaze of his now rehabilitated older self. The Feldsher, Anna and Pelageya will also return.

Dan had the following to say about his decision to play The Young Doctor again: “I had absolutely no hesitation in agreeing to do a second series of A Young Doctor’s Notebook. I had an incredible time working with the multi talented Jon Hamm and of course am a huge fan of Mikhail Bulgakov’s work and so was thrilled when I was told a second series had been commissioned. I am also greatly looking forward to working with our new director Robert McKillop and cannot wait to commence filming this summer.”

Filming is currently taking place in London, and the series will air on Sky Arts 1 in late 2013.  [source]

In related news, US subscription channel Ovation will be airing the first series from 3rd October. [source]

Dan to guest-voice in another episode of the Simpsons

Simpsons-Radcliffe

Dan will be lending his voice to Diggs, a character in an upcoming episode of The Simpsons. Executive producer Al Jean describes Diggs as “a combination of Holden Caulfield, Finny from A Separate Peace and the kids in Lord of the Flies — only a little more screwed up.”

When asked why Dan was invited to make a follow up appearance on the show, Jean replied “I had the pleasure of meeting him after one of his performances in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and he is one of the people who actually listens to Simpsons DVD commentaries. Also, he was terrific.”

Series 25 of The Simpsons begins airing on Fox from 29th September.
