*UPDATE* Daniel Radcliffe Narrates 2010 Holocaust Memorial Day Film

Videos - Miscellaneous
Once more showing maturity far beyond his years and how much he cares about important issues, Dan has recorded the narration for the 2010 Holocaust Memorial Day short film, The Legacy of Hope.

The film focuses on survivors’ stories and can be watched here.

Like the first survivor in the film, I lost family in Piotrkow Trybunalski and I am in tears.

Thank you Emma, for the link.

UPDATE : In a press release from the HMDT, Carly Whyborn, Chief Executive Officer, Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, said: “We are delighted that Daniel Radcliffe is once again lending his support to HMD. With this year's theme - The Legacy of Hope – it is entirely fitting that Daniel, who is so well known amongst younger audiences, has narrated our film, which will be shown at HMD events across the UK. Through the film, people will have the opportunity to listen to the memories of survivors like Ben, Lily and Iby and think about what action they can take after HMD which will have a positive impact on their community.”

Daniel Radcliffe said, “"When I was approached to narrate this short film, The Legacy of Hope, I felt very privileged. I felt that in a very small way I was contributing to the remembrance of these tragic and horrendous events, whilst also commemorating all those people who refused to let the horrors they had lived through dictate the tone of the rest of their lives.

“The surest shield we have against future atrocities is our knowledge and our emotional understanding of what has happened in the past. The chance to help the vital work done by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust could not be turned down."

UPDATE : as it says in the comments : If you liked the film then why not be part of The Legacy of Hope and see what you can do to build a safer future together www.hmd.org.uk

Thanks to the upcoming World Basketball Festival, we now get a “USA” Air Jordan 2010 Team. It seems as if more people like the Air Jordan 2010 Team than the original Air Jordan 2010 because of the windowless side panels. I’m not one of those people who likes the team better; I think the original
Nike Shoes 2010 Shoes looks much better.Since this jordan Shoes Team is made for the USA team, the colorway should be clear. White can be seen on the side panels, toe, shoe laces, tongue, part of the midsole and the entire outsole. Navy blue covers the toe, heel, inner lining and above the midsole. Red accents appear on the tongue, toe, heel, lace panels and the midsole. The sneaker is constructed of perforated white leather with larger perforations placed on the side panels.

hi ,
film about HMD is really good and i agree with anonymous ,some times reason behind every act is human hunger .hunger for what? is a thing to be known .thats what will make us better humanbeings and prevent us from doing harmful thing to society. .
kristen   |98.105.159.215 |2009-11-07 11:38:15
power, control, domination. Some of the three evils of society. This is what I meant by hunger! For a harry potter website boy we really dove into deep philosophy here didn't we? My coworkers are just glad I am not arguing with them.
Jeannine   |69.149.75.247 |2009-11-08 06:33:15
kristen...this isn't a Harry Potter website ...it's a Daniel Radcliffe website. It reflect's his interests and
involvements....as well as all other projects and love reading your thoughts on this topic...please
keep commenting.

jeannine sorry did not mean to step on some delicate toes here! My friend and secretary actually brought up the website and read the comments at work. She has been typing my coments while I was busy charting. I did not see the websites name until today! I also did not realize that the differentiation between actor and character was such a sensitive issue! Will hop over the delicate toes in the future!

no offense neither of us were offended or angered (hugs back) we enjoy your website at work as we love harry potter and the whole cast. We just all like to share our love of Dan ,as a person, artist and thoughts on his projects here.

He awes us here a lot with his intelligent observations,
kindness, graciousness, energy and keen wit.Hope you come back often to witness these things and share in our thoughts and give yours...we love the conversations.
It surprising sometimes what we learn from Dan here and from other commentors.

We've seemed to gone a little off track here. We all agree Dan is a wounderful man, but the reason we commented here was because of this powerful video. We wanted to explain how it affected our whole office and are proud that dan lent his voice for it. Dan got the attention of everyone in the office including my friend(which is a minor miracle) which is why she commented. Another girl sucked in by dans charity and charms!! Anyhow last week I played this video and it was like time stood still for just a moment in our office. This powerful vidoe opened our hearts and opened up a slightly heated debate. My friend mentioned the spanish inquisition and the slaughter of millions of crypto-jews(i think the term is she can explain better). This video really affected everyone in our office and we learned alot from it. Thank you Dan for the video, the debate(it was interesting), and thank you for the website Jenna, lol!

Jennia  - What was Dan's other HMD project?   |24.58.23.124 |2009-11-01 18:35:44
The press release said that Dan was once again lending his support to Holocaust Memorial Day. Does anyone know what he did previously? This video will probably be played on regular TV as the date get closer. Dan's contibution to the project will validate his good character to a wide group of viewers, including those who might not go to see an HP movie. His charity contributions and now this, have me agreeing with Lauren in saying he continues to show a maturity beyond his years.

Humanity!!!If we all had a little more humanity and worried less about religion, sex discriminaton, and absolute power we would be a better planet! period!!!!!!!!!
DJ  - ?   |67.167.67.244 |2009-11-04 06:04:02
We'd be a better planet? How do you know that?
DJ   |67.167.67.244 |2009-11-04 06:29:24
You just lumped together apples and oranges. No,we don't need sex discrimination(which is bad)but some of us need to believe in an absolute power because man has really screwed up the planet anyway. As Jeannine said, it is not up to God, it is up to us.
I guess we could all argue if we,as humans, are even inately good. Are our children inately good?Or did we all have to teach them what was right from wrong? We all need boundaries and some get them from a religion. But religion is man made anyway.Man has made both good and bad choices over the years and the state of this world this is all man's doing, not God's. Yet,I look up into the sky and see a vast universe, albeit only what my naked eye can see. There is so much more out there and our planet is but a speck. And whether you believe in creation or not,God or not or a Big Bang theory, the Big Bang still had to originate from somewhere, and so did the darkness. There is no end to the universe, and where is its origin? I like to ask those ...
DJ  - I hate it when I run out of room!   |67.167.67.244 |2009-11-04 06:35:00
I'd like to ask those who do not believe in an Absolute Power to explain that.Maybe I'll ask Daniel. He's sick of people writing him about Harry Potter anyway and he likes a challenge.

So kristin, you say we'd be a better planet. How do you even know that?
Anonymous   |98.104.232.11 |2009-11-04 10:01:34
What I meant by absolute power was mans hunger for it not god. We can have humanity and also care for our fellow human being without god or a higher being involved. If we cared more about our fellow human being and the earth we WOULD be a better planet. Simple as that. We can spout philosopy all day long and argue religion or lack of it, but simple love and caring goes a long way!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kristen   |98.104.232.11 |2009-11-04 10:02:45

DJ   |67.167.67.244 |2009-11-09 16:42:35
I can agree with that.
Boutakova   |Registered |2009-11-01 06:11:50
I cried when I was watching this film ‘cause In my opinion the events of those years are awful and also I consider that a nationality isn’t important in such issues and what religion isn’t important too. The main thing is that years of war carried away a huge number of victims and ours duty is to support survived people and to help them. It’s great that such films are created. Thanks for this reference
Jeannine   |Registered |2009-11-01 09:21:56
Right
Those who died in this horrid event(s) should never be forgotten by those of the present ..and future....remembering them is important to our own humanity .Man's inhumanty to his fellow man...and woman....has always been around.. we should all learn from mistakes...and horrid treatment.... to our brothers and sisters.... others have made and change
the future of events as we are all each others responciblities ,it isn't God's, it is ours...break the chain.

Thank you for doing this, in the world of hatred and so many people denying Holocaust this is so important that we won't forget those events. And, guys, religion has nothing to do with that...Look at all those being blown up in buses for being Israelis, not religious Jews...
Thank you Dan!
Amethyst   |93.85.63.155 |2009-10-31 09:02:01
If you are an Athiest it doesn't mean that you are worse than other people. We are free and we can choose. Our grandfathers fighted for this freedom.
saky   |173.59.213.133 |2009-10-31 09:12:36
I have to agree with Amethyst.

In fact one might argue that without a belief in God, one is left with a greater responsibilty toward one's personal actions and the actions of man.
Jennia  - Reminds me of My Boy Jack..Awareness of Tragedy   |Registered |2009-10-30 13:18:23
I just finished watching and listening to "Legacy of Hope" and I realized that it reminds me of the work Dan did on "My Boy Jack." I didn't know about this bit of tragic loss among all of the tragic stories from WWI, until Dan portrayed the life and death of Jack Kipling, reminding us all to remember such loss. Again, Dan narrates an incredible film about the need to remember tragic loss; this time the Holocost, which took place during WWII. Dan's narration adds to the film, as a whole; whether you factor in his mother's Jewish background and his choice to be an atheist or not. I am glad he chose to do this, because I DO know it must have meant a great deal to him and his mother.
Those of us who believe in God can only hope that a project like this might influence Dan to deeper consideration of the deity that is the reason the Jews never gave up hope. I, personally, pray Dan will find his way to faith and will never give up that hope.
DJ  - Thank you, Jennia   |67.167.67.244 |2009-10-31 05:49:35
Jennia...Your last few sentences put into words exactly what I was feeling. After I wrote my first post, I thought about it and decided...why not just leave Daniel up to God to handle. I've believed for years that God is working through Daniel's choices anyway. My Boy Jack is one of them, this short film is another and his charities are others. I think his parents are wonderful in how they have raised him. I think it is so curious that they believe in fate and that Dan's being Harry Potter was for a reason, but yet Daniel sees no connection. Thank you, Jennia, for helping me to understand. I'll just leave it up to God.
Anonymous   |68.103.61.173 |2009-10-31 08:51:22
So you're saying that a person isn't capable of doing genuine good hearted things unless "God" is behind it. Well I can tell you now that I am a good person with good morals, but "God" has nothing to do with it. It's me and my own consciousness that causes the good things to happen. I do good things and I feel good about it. It's me and my mind, not "God".
jain   |92.28.172.35 |2009-10-31 09:42:43

Dan did a wonderful job of narrating the short film. The survivors featured were eloquent witnesses of unimaginable horrors. It does show evidence that no degradation can extinguish the human spirit, even death.

So many died because of who they are in their religious beliefs. I find it very difficult to understand how Dan can profess to be an Athiest and still do this project. HOw can he be proud of his Jewish roots and not believe in God? How can he possibly understand their sacrifice?
Torill   |84.209.97.216 |2009-10-30 02:28:35
Can Dan as an atheist or indeed anyone not a Jew understand their sacrifice? Good question. Is it possible to feel empathy with anyone who is different from yourself? Personally, I do believe this is possible. That's why I still have hope for this world. If we were only able to understand those we agree with, there wouldn't be much hope.

Of course Dan can be proud of his Jewish roots even though he is not religious himself. Should he be *ashamed* of his ancestors because he cannot share their beliefs? *That* would have been confusing and disappointing indeed.
Lilyp  - Religion has nothing to do with HMD   |189.25.198.207 |2009-10-30 09:04:37
Sorry, I clicked wrongly on the thumbs up, when actually I would click the other way, on the thumbs down.
Religion had nothing to do with the holocaust. The Jewish people weren't massacrated because of their religion, but because of their ethnicity. Bruno Bettelheim, for instance, a psychoanalyst of Jewish origin, was a prisoner and he wasn't religious.
And why can't atheists be horrified by what happened? Christian weren't the main victims of Nazism, but there are a lot of Christians that are also horrified, and the same apply to every religion of lack of.

sbkness75   |Registered |2009-10-30 11:54:29
Judaisim is more than a belief in G-d. It provides a set of morals and values to people and, yes, believing in G-d is a main part of the religion, but Dan can still support this foundation either way.

This cause needs as many people to spread the word anyway and like Lilyp said, the Holocaust was not centered completely around religion.
Marie   |41.206.156.13 |2009-11-01 23:46:49
This is about being humanitarian. Religion does not determine whether we have empathy for people's suffering or whether we do good works. I might also add that horrible things have happened throughout history BECAUSE of, and in the name of, religion! So don't assume that only good can come from having faith or that faith is necessary for doing good.
sbkness75   |Registered |2009-10-29 15:26:27
That is absolutely amazing. I am Jewish and it is a responsibility of mine to make sure that the Holocaust is not forgotten. In a few weeks, I will be participating in a program in which I will learn a survivor's story and commit it to memory, so the story lives on.

Dan is incredible for participating in this; first the Trevor Project and now HMD. We have a fantastic reason to be such big fans of Dan.
claudia   |85.146.176.113 |2009-10-29 14:48:37
yes dan's voice is really touching. when I was in new york last year, I was in a church and when I stepped out I lost my camera so I went back for searching. then the preacher came to me and asked what's the matter. I explained. then he said: god bless you. and I though: I am already blessed because I had met Dan for the first time the day before.
and I would be blessed two more times the same day and the day after. because meeting dan, is like you're blessed! standing in front of one of the greatest actors in the world. is wonderful. and esspecially when he stares into your eyes with his wonderfull blue grey sparkling eyes. the only thing you think of at that moment is: I am glad I'm living. because when I did't I would have miss this. and I promise you, I didn't want to miss this for a million! dan your the greatest.

GO DANIEL RADCLIFFE!!!

That's a huge honor. I can't wait to hear more about this. I remember learning the Holocaust in 7th Grade, but that's it. I only really knew the basics of what the people feared in this tragic incident. I DID however read "Anne Frank", which is a very powerful book.

Again, congratulations to Daniel Radcliffe for having such a mature & strong honoration for doing a speech or show, or whatever he does, he deserves it.

Another Great acction made by Dan, very touching. it shows how Dan is such a mature person for being so young. The holocaust has always cought my attention and now even more since someone I admire contributed to the good cause. Priceless!!!

I will never understand how the Holocaust could have happened, how anyone could have thought that such atrocities were even remotely justified; it terrifies me that there are people today who insist that it never occurred, despite all the evidence; and I am immensely proud of Dan for once again standing up for what is right.

Konni Risse  - Well done, Dan!   |80.142.63.61 |2009-10-29 06:53:19
As cruel and sad this chapter of our past is, as important is it to NOT forget and make sure something like this can never happen again. I'm not proud of this period of our history and ashamed as well.... although i was born way after the war...

Very well done, Dan!

Had a hard time getting through that and am short on words right now.

I'm very proud of Dan, for the great job on the voice work and for his personal contribution in helping to maintain these memories.

Hearing these stories are horrifying and inspiring at the same time. Bless Dan for respecting his Jewish roots. His continued charity and support for so many wonderful organizations and causes is something that is inspiring to us all. So young and so understanding and compassionate.

This is why I support Dan. He really is mature and intelligent beyond his years. His voice was caring and flawless to listen to and very comforting. This was a very sad short film. The Holocaust always interests me and makes me feel so upset inside. Great job for trying to create peace yet again Dan. Kudos to you and your parents for raising your right.

My God. What a beautiful film, and what a wonderful message. I am so proud of the man Dan has become...how many other young stars would do this and be so committed? God bless him, now and always.
