Daniel Radcliffe Wins Fans' Choice Award

The winners for the 7th Annual Theatre Fans' Choice Awards were announced today, and Daniel Radcliffe took away the prize for Best Leading Actor in a Play, for his role in Equus.

"In all, more than 400,000 theatergoers and fans weighed in once again breaking site traffic records, and further solidifying the Theater Fans' Choice Awards place as the largest and most popular online Broadway polling event of its kind."

Equus also won for Best Revival of a Play, Best Lighting Design, and Best Direction of a Play. Congrats to all the winners. After all, it is the theatergoers' opinions that matter most, they are the ones who pay for the tickets -- not the critics!

Judging from the various commentaries, articles & blogs, does it seem to any of you that the press is kind of dissapointed that DR didn't get a Tony nomination? It's as if they feel that the Tony's would have been a little more "newsworthy" if he had.

Has anyone at www.danradcliffe.com received a statement from Dan's spokesperson about receiving this award? I'd love to read his reaction to winning this fan-voted award.
Dan's performance in Equus was so strong ...so intense. I had hoped he would be recognized for his work and for how much he gave of himself to promote Broadway. Bravo!! (Standing up and applauding wildly!)

Yes, Jenna, you have gotten it all spot on, girl! It is the theatergoers opinions that matter most above the critics! And I feel Dan knows that! It is truly his magnificent self that has brought up a small piece of Broadway's revenue by bringing people in from all over the world to see him perform in this fantastic play. Whether the critics may have a problem with jealousy or just too snobby to see what is really good, at least elena77 summed it all up for them in just a few words ...
