Demelza House Children's Hospice

DanRadcliffe.com sponsors a fundraiser for Demelza House Children's Hospice at the request of Dan and his family. Please - instead of sending presents and things to Dan for his birthday or Christmas, he would prefer that you send donations to help support this very worthy organisation.

A Special Message from Daniel Radcliffe

"In the past my fans have been truly generous in sending me fantastic presents especially for my birthday and at Christmas. I truly appreciate these and feel very fortunate to have such loyal fans. I would like to ask that instead of sending me a gift that they make a donation to DEMELZA HOUSE, a fantastic children's hospice outside London that I support, which does amazing work for terminally ill children and their families. The focus of the hospice is in their words about, "Adding life to days when days cannot be added to life". Please visit the website www.demelzahouse.org to find out more about this incredible place that I feel very proud to support.

DANIEL"

Efforts for Autism

In May of 2002, Dan made a guest appearance on a DVD entitled "Mind Reading: the Interactive Guide to Emotion."  The DVD uses a cast of over 30 actors to demonstrate the facial expressions and vocalizations associated with 412 distinct emotions.  Developed by researchers at the University of Cambridge Autism Research Centre, it is primarily an educational tool for people with autism spectrum conditions who have difficulty in recognizing emotions but also claims to be a useful resource for anyone interested in the dramatic arts who needs to study human emotions.  READ MORE

23rd July 2003

DanRadcliffe.com sponsored an effort, in conjunction with project head Tara Pratt, to raise funds for the National Autistic Society for Dan's 14th birthday.  The target was to raise £2000 by his birthday and I am very pleased to report that, at the time of writing this, we had reached £1,989.82, plus the tax monies of £57.54, and the total amount raised stands at £2,047.36.  This is a wonderful response by Dan's fans and Dan himself has even commented on the project in a message to this site about it, saying:

"I also want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has made donations to the National Autistic Society instead of sending me birthday presents. This is a fantastic idea for a wonderful organisation."

Dan Donates Crew Shirt for Tsunami Disaster

Daniel donated his Hogwarts crew T-shirt, the one he wore during the filming of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, for the Tsunami Celebrity Clothes Auction. The shirt was very special, not only because he signed the front of it, but also because it was only given out to the cast and the crew of HP. You can't buy one anywhere. His shirt raised £520.00 after 32 bids, making a grand total of well over £25,000.

LEPRA's Big Book Pledge

Dan and other "Harry Potter" cast members have donated signed copies of their favorite books, some with signed photos, to LEPRA's Big Book Pledge Auction. LEPRA is a leading UK medical charity which helps to fight leprosy and other killer diseases worldwide. Dan's donation to the auction is a signed copy of "The Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger as well as a signed photo. Other HP donors include Alan Rickman (who donated a blank journal), Robbie Coltrane (who donated "Careless Love"), Emma Thompson (who donated "Persuasion") and Zoe Wanamaker ("Zen in the Art of Archery"). Click here to see Dan's book and photo in detail.

Comic Relief Participation

On 27 February 2003, Dan donated a lock of his hair and an autograph for a British Charity, Comic Relief. £750 was raised through his donation to help support deprived areas of the UK, as well as other areas around the world. The Wella Celebrity Hair Auction took place in London, and the public was permitted to bid for the locks of celebrities' hair.

Kamp Kiwanis Club

Dan contributed his autograph, along with the other cast members of the Goblet of Fire production, in aide of the establishment for disabled and underpriviledged children.
