Dan to star in thriller/fantasy film ‘Horns'; guest-voice on Robot Chicken

by ClaireSep 16, 2012

Dan said this year was going to be about film, and as always, he’s a man of his word.

Variety announced – on Friday the 13th*, somewhat fittingly – ┬áthat Dan will be starring in the film adaptation of Joe Hill’s Horns, playing Ignatius Perrish. 26 year old Ig is the chief suspect in the rape and murder of his girlfriend, Merrin. One year on, after a night of heavy drinking, Ig wakes up to find he has horns growing from his head, and discovers that these horns have the power to make people confess their sins, and influence them to carry out their impulses.

From Variety:

Daniel Radcliffe has signed on to star in supernatural fantasy/thriller “Horns.”

Pic will be financed by Red Granite Pictures. Red Granite will co-produce the film with Mandalay Pictures.

Based on the novel by Joe Hill, “Horns” is being directed by Alexandre Aja (“The Hills Have Eyes,” “Piranha 3D”).

“Horns” has been adapted by Keith Bunin (“In Treatment”).

Producers are Red Granite’s Riza Aziz and Joey McFarland, Mandalay Pictures president Cathy Schulman and Adam Stone. Joe Hill and Red Granite’s Joe Gatta are executive producers.

Radcliffe will portray the number one suspect for the rape and murder of his girlfriend. He awakens one morning to find horns starting to grow from his own head and soon realizes their power drives people to confess their sins and give in to their impulses — an effective tool in his quest to discover the true circumstances of his late girlfriend’s tragedy.

Shooting is slated to begin this fall. Red Granite Pictures’ international sales arm will handle foreign sales.

“After reading Joe Hill’s cult book, I couldn’t resist temptation to dive into the devilish underworld and reinvent a universal myth,” Aja said.

Radcliffe starred earlier this year in “The Woman in Black” in his first role following the conclusion of the eight Harry Potter films last year.

Red Granite is also producing “The Wolf of Wall Street” with Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way, Alexandra Milchan’s Emjag and Martin Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions. DiCaprio is starring and Scorsese will direct. It also teamed with Point West Prods. and Locomotive to produce romantic comedy “Friends with Kids.”

Radcliffe is repped by UTA, attorney Fred Toczek and Artists Rights Group in the UK.

I spent much of last night reading Horns, and it seems like a perfect fit for Dan. If you’d like to read the book for yourself, head over to Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com.

In other news, Dan is rumoured to be appearing as a guest-voice on Seth “hey, you’re tiny like me!” Green’s Robot Chicken. As of yet, this news is rumour based on a tweet from Nerd HQ’s Robot Chicken panel, with Seth Green and Matt Senreich, but as it came directly from the creators of the show, I think it’s safe to say it’s happening. We’ll keep you updated with any more news about this project.

*Of course there’d be Dan news when I’m drugged up on migraine meds and Lauren is out for the evening. Of course. Friday the 13th indeed.
