Dan a National Treasure?

Posted by coralie on 29/03/07

Since we don’t want to be too serious this morning, here is a little something fluffy for you to enjoy: according to an article in The Telegraph, Daniel Radcliffe is on the “New Nominees for National Treasures” list in the UK. We certainly agree that Dan deserves the title! toung.gif

"Daniel Radcliffe – He could have stayed Harry Potter but his brave leap into theatre has gained him great reviews and his deference to his senior co-stars, shows him to be a well-brought up little treasure."

WB Confirms Trio For HP 6 & 7

Posted by allo on 23/03/07

In a press release issued earlier today, Warner Bros. announced that Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint have all signed on to complete the last two films in the Harry Potter series – Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (scheduled for release in November 2008 ) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (tentatively scheduled for summer 2010). Jeff Robinov, President of Production for Warner Bros. Pictures, had this to say about the casting of the trio:

"When Daniel, Rupert and Emma were first cast as Harry, Ron and Hermione, we knew they were not only talented, but had a very special chemistry. Through the years, and in each of the ‘Harry Potter’ films, we have watched them grow into extraordinary young adults, as well as remarkable actors. It would be inconceivable to imagine anyone else in the roles with which they have become so identified, so we are thrilled and proud that Daniel, Rupert and Emma have chosen to complete the arc of their characters in the final two films."

We couldn’t agree more – this represents an amazing achivement for the trio. Hopefully this announcement should put to rest all those rumors that were circulating earlier in the week about Emma wanting to quit the series!

For the full text of the press release, which includes quotes from Dan, Rupert, Emma and producer David Heyman, please click on the “Full Story” link below. Many thanks to WB for the announcement.

Quotes from Daniel on Jonathan Ross Show

Posted by coralie on 23/03/07

As most of you probably know by now, Daniel will be a guest on the Friday Night With Jonathan Ross show scheduled for broadcast on BBC1 in the U.K. later this evening. To give you a little idea of what to expect, some quotes from the interview have been posted on‘s website:

Dan speaking about why he chose to star in Equus:

"It’s not that I want to distance myself from Harry Potter. The whole point of doing something different is to show that you can, so hopefully it’s achieved that… in any case, given this opportunity, you would be really dumb to turn it down."

On preparing for his on-stage nude scene:

"There were ridiculous stories in the papers about me doing seven hours a day in the gym… I’m not that committed… I wasn’t so much intimidated by the part… even though I would be naked on stage and that was scary… but by the thought of going on stage and sustaining the energy for two-and-a-half hours."

About signing on for the last two Harry Potter movies:

"I’m going to do all seven, I was 11 at the start and I’ll be 20 by the end… I genuinely think these films have got better and better."

We’ll be sure to post a video clip of the show as soon as we get one, so remember to check back with us a bit later.

Thanks to Jane for the tip!

Will Kemp Says that Dan is a Gentleman

Posted by coralie on 20/03/07

Will Kemp, who plays the dual roles of the young horseman and the horse Nugget in the current revival of Equus, had nothing but good things to say about Daniel in an article published in the Evening Standard:

"He is a remarkable young man. There’s very little that can throw him: the mass hysteria, the publicity, the press, the constant hassle that is his life – he handles it brilliantly. He could easily have been this 17-year-old brat, but he’s not at all, he’s a real gentleman."

Click on the above link to read the entire article and see some photos from the play (nothing new of Dan, but some fabulous pictures of Kemp… it’s almost a pity to have to put a horse’s head on him for the play!) bigsmile.gif

WB "Confident" That Emma Will Film HP6 and 7

Posted by allo on 19/03/07

Following a rash of tabloid reports over the weekend that Emma Watson was quitting the Harry Potter film series, accompanied by quotes apparently made by Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint, CBBC Newsround contacted Warner Bros. for official comment and received the following response:

"We’re extremely confident that Emma will be back for films six and seven."

The report says that details are still being worked out for Emma’s contract but she is expected to sign on soon. So until you see any further official word from WB on the subject, please regard any signing/leaving stories as rumor. Many thanks to TLC for the tip.

David Yates Talks About Dan to

Posted by allo on 16/03/07

The entertainment website is running a series of interviews with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix director David Yates and in the second part of the interview, he talks a bit about working with Dan and how they talked with a bereavement counselor in order to understand how Harry feels following the traumatic experiences at the end of Goblet of Fire.

"David Yates: …Dan as an actor is incredibly intuitive and emotional, and I mean that in a good way. I’d actually rather use the word sensitive instead of emotional, because he’s quite strategic about his empathy for people and things."

Vote Dan on to the "Wetten, dass…?" Couch!

Posted by allo on 14/03/07

Top European TV show “Wetten, dass…?” is inviting viewers to vote for the celebrities that they would most like to see on the show and Dan is currently number 4 in the overall poll out of over 100 nominees. If you think Dan should be invited on to the show, go here to place your vote (10 for yes, 1 for no, etc):

Wetten, dass…? Wunschcouch Voting

“Wetten, dass…?” is the most popular entertainment show in the German-speaking countries. Besides being interviewed on the show’s famous couch, guests are invited to bet on crazy stunts and challenges performed by members of the public (such as solving a Rubik’s Cube onehanded underwater) …and pay a little “forfeit” of their own if the challenge isn’t met!

Understudy Colin Haigh Says Dan Loves a Good Challenge!

Posted by coralie on 14/03/07

As most of you probably know by now, Richard Griffiths, who plays psychiatrist Martin Dysart in the current revival of Equus, came down with the flu shortly after the official opening of the play and had to miss a few performances. His understudy, Colin Haigh, had to step in for him.

In an article published in the Guardian today, Haigh had some interesting comments when asked how Daniel reacted to the situation:

"He was almost gleeful,” says Haigh (who normally plays stable manager Harry Dalton in the play). “It was like a challenge, suddenly having to act against someone else. A lot of the lines are questions. I managed without the script for quite a while; when in doubt about the right line, all I had to do was say ‘Go on’ to Daniel and he would just fill in."

Now how level headed is that for an almost first time theatre performer? toung.gif

On a side note, it’s a very interesting article to read. It also mentions how distracting trying to take illegal pictures during a play can be for the actors on stage.

Dan Supports Film Club – Confirmed

Posted by jenna on 11/03/07

I am sure you have all seen the reports about Daniel supporting the Film Club project. Earlier I was sent confirmation that he is indeed supporting this (sorry I just got home from covering an event so I couldn’t post before now).

On the Film Club website teachers and pupils can order films, write reviews and rate movies, as well as access information about what’s on at their local cinema. The club is designed to introduce youngsters to a broader spectrum of cinema. Film Club is currently in its pilot phase in 25 schools, with the intention to roll out to a further 10,000 schools nationwide in the UK this summer.

Update: Just to clarify, Dan will NOT be visiting any schools as it says in the Variety article. Don’t know where they got that from.

Letter From Dan

Posted by jenna on 09/03/07

Many of you have been asking me about it…and I know it has taken a while…but I am happy to say Daniel has finally been able to finish going through everything that was done for him on ACED Magazine by the fans over the holidays – and we thank him very much for taking the time to do it! He is also very appreciative to everyone for their hard work and support for Demelza over the holidays, as he has said in the past. He wanted to send a special thank you to all of the fans that did participate in the ACED projects though, so… without further adieu:

“I am sorry it has taken me so long to respond to ACED MAGAZINE but my life has been hectic and I just didn’t have time to focus on it properly. I now have and I think it is simply wonderful. It absolutely blows my brain that you can actually get such an amazing magazine together in this way. I am just gobsmacked. So, a huge thank you to all my truly wonderful and loyal fans for all your hard work on this project and for your continued support. It means the world to me”.

Love, Dan

Of course, we are doing an entirely different kind of project this year for Dan’s 18th Birthday – one that doesn’t need to be read or sorted through, as ACED Magazine has become its own entity…and is a full-time job for me…and too much of a big beast for Dan to try and sort through everything all at once anymore. We will still do the Demelza projects through ACED Magazine, but that’s it for the birthday front with regards to ACED.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the last round of fan projects, and thank you to the over-one-thousand fans that have already participated in the (yes I did say over one thousand) 18th Birthday project so far. I think this project will turn out simply amazing!

The more fans we get to participate the better. I think we should try for a record people – what do you say? I want to see how many thousands of fans we can get on board for this one. It’s easy and fast – everyone can do this one. I will even set up a thumbnail gallery for you to see that your pic was included. Quick – Do it today!

New Interview with Equus Director Thea Sharrock on BBC Radio Womans Hour

Posted by coralie on 06/03/07

Equus director Thea Sharrock was interviewed on BBC Radio 4’s woman’s hour this morning. During the interview, Sharrock spoke about the unusual amount of pressure surrounding the production and, of course, had nothing but praise for Daniel and his acting abilities:

"He is an absolute consummate actor in his own right… This is an enormous leap for any seventeen-year-old to do… He brings with him an extraordinary discipline and level of professionalism, and that was an absolute gift for me."

The Saddle and the Damage Done

Posted by jenna on 05/03/07

Our very own reader, Danilo, wrote up an article for ACED Magazine regarding Equus, exploring the Religious and Metaphorical meanings behind many plot points in the production.

It is a fabulous read for those of you that have read the play, have seen or will see the production. It may also help to explain and enlighten those who were initially turned off by some of the more “racy” scenes in Equus. Make sure you leave some comments and rate his article while you’re there. Equus Merchandise and Demelza Charity

Posted by jenna on 04/03/07

For those of you who can’t go to see Equus – you can buy Equus memorabilia. Merchandise went on sale Friday. The production crew is selling t-shirts and posters for the play. This is special. Merchandise is generally not sold for straight shows. It is generally only done with musicals.

You can buy the t-shirts and posters directly from our site by downloading this PDF form. (I will add a banner to the top of the site this weekend). You just need to fill in the appropriate fields and fax it to the correct number written on the form, depending on your location. If you have any questions about it you can E-Mail Me.

On another note, the Equus production crew are such fantastic, generous people – they are donating a few t-shirts and posters to our website for our Demelza Charity fund-raiser for Dan’s upcoming 18th birthday drive!

Anyone who participates in Dan’s 18th birthday Demelza Charity drive will automatically be eligible to win one of the t-shirts, posters, and another little somethin’ somethin’ that will remain a secret for now. Each will come with their own Equus production insert – straight from London. More information on the fund-raiser will be coming soon.

PS – for those of you ordering outside of the UK, you can do conversions to pounds sterling at THIS WEBSITE.

ADMIN: Some things are moving…

Posted by jenna on 02/03/07

Yes I can hear your grumbles from here, there and everywhere – but… It is necessary. We are doing an upgrade for the forum so it will be down temporarily. We are also switching hosts – again – to make things EVER BETTER and faster. We are joining Leaky’s host Idologic. These guys have just been amazing.

The site is actually all ready on their server, we are just waiting for things to propagate through the net before switching over fully. You most likely will not even notice the switch, but if we are unreachable at any time you will know why. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN so don’t panic. – Trust me, I panic enough for all of us.

I have loads more to publish today (Equus related and more) so please be patient with me as I am trying to do a gazillion things at once right now.
