A Few More Scans
Posted by allo on 28/04/06
Many thanks to Alana, Tracey and Madika for sending in a few more international magazine scans featuring Dan:
* -The Public article roughly translates as:
"”The National Portrait Gallery of London, which houses portraits representing the most famous people in British history, has welcomed Daniel Radcliffe. On discovering his double on canvas, the actor is apparently left speechless!”
** – Tracey tells us that there is also an interview with Robert Pattinson in It's Hot that says:
"Question: 'Fess up, What is Daniel Radcliffe really like?
Robert: He's a very cool guy- he's very talented and he's really intelligent, too. I wouldn't have been able to handle all of the stuff that's happened the way that he has."
*** – There is still time to vote for Dan, Emma and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire at Popstar Magazine's 5th Annual Poptastic Awards. Place your votes by May 1st!

Rupert and Phelps Twins Talk OOTP
Posted by allo on 20/04/06
Earlier today (Wednesday), Rupert Grint and James and Oliver Phelps, who play Ron, Fred and George Weasley, took some time out from filming Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix to be interviewed by Jo Whiley on Radio 1 in the UK. Dan's name came up a few times during the interview – sounds like filming OOTP can be a painful experience!
"Jo Whiley: Can I just ask what you were filming today? Briefly, what scenes you were doing…
Rupert Grint: We were doing one of the final scenes, in Umbridge's Office … I'm getting restrained by one of Malfoy's henchmen and Dan gets slapped in it!"
When asked to describe each of their fellow cast members with one word, one of the twins came up with “music lover” for Dan and Rupert described him as “hyperactive”!
Click on the Full Story link below for excerpts from a transcript of the interview, courtesy of Snitchseeker. The full interview can be heard on the Jo Whiley Show website (in RealMedia format) or you can go to RupertGrint.net to hear edited versions of the interview in MP3 or Windows Media format.
Latest Newsletter from Dan
Posted by allo on 19/04/06
Thanks again to Kim for forwarding a copy of Dan's latest newsletter, which he sends to fans who write to him. For those of you who are waiting for your own copies, we won't completely spoil the surprise but we'll hint at a few highlights. In this letter, Dan talks a bit about working in Australia on December Boys, starting work on Order of the Phoenix and his current favorite books (including “The Trial” by Franz Kafka), films (including Capote and Walk The Line) and music (currently listening to The Spinto Band, Be Your Own Pet, Jim Noir, Stars and Elbow).
At the end of the letter (and we'll bring this up because we know this was a point of discussion on our forums recently), Dan thanks fans who have sent “simply stunning” scrapbooks, albums and other projects to him in recent months. However, while he really appreciates the amount of time and effort that goes into the projects, he apologizes profusely for not being able to reply personally to them all “due to the sheer volume of mail and a very busy schedule”. We hope everyone will understand.
To find out how you can get your own copy of Dan's newsletter, please go to our Mailing Address page, which has his fan mail address and full details about how to write and what you can expect by way of a reply. As is our custom, now that a new newsletter is out, a copy of Dan's previous newsletter has been placed in our Newsletters Gallery.

Daniel Radcliffe Portrait to be Unveiled at National Theatre
Posted by jenna on 12/04/06
Early Tuesday afternoon Dan's representative made us aware that a portrait of Daniel Radcliffe will be unveiled today as part of a new exhibition opening at London's National Theatre. The exhibition, which is entitled “Most People are Other People: Portraits of Actors from Britain and Ireland”, consists of part of a collection of portraits of noted British and Irish actors and actresses by award-winning artist Stuart Pearson Wright.
Among the other portraits on display are those of Harry Potter actors Michael Gambon and Fiona Shaw. The rest of the collection, including portraits of Alan Rickman and Timothy Spall, is on display at the National Portrait Gallery.
Says Dan: “I am absolutely delighted to have been chosen to be included in Stuart Pearson Wright's exhibition and to be part of such an esteemed group of people. I've never sat for a portrait and found the whole experience fascinating. And I love the finished result.”
In an interview with the BBC, he added: “I love it. Until recently, I'd seen a peek of it in the catalogue, but not actually seen the real thing. It was strange seeing myself as I was two years ago, not as I am now. If you look at each individual part of my face they look exactly like part of my face. Together it's surreal.”
The pencil drawing of Dan will be acquired by the National Portrait Gallery after its unveiling, making him one of the youngest people to sit for an individual portrait in the gallery.
For more information about the exhibition, which runs until May 20th, please visit the National Theatre website. You can also click on the “full story” link below to read a press release about the exhibition.
Last year, Pearson Wright painted a 3D study of Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling for the National Portrait Gallery. To find out more about the artist and his work, please visit his official website The Saveloy Factory.
Webmaster's Note: Thank you to everyone that has written in about this. The story itself ran at various media outlets already, but the actual portrait and information was exclusively shared with our site yesterday. I was asked not to publish the portrait or the story until 8am London time on Wednesday, 12 April so I waited until that time to publish the entire news piece to honour that request.
UPDATE: Another article about the portrait appears in today's Guardian newspaper. The artist, Stuart Pearson Wright, talks about Dan's enthusiasm for the project and the challenges he faced capturing Dan's likeness.

I know nothing about what I'm going to do but it's a great opportunity to do something different.”
We do not presently know the exact air date of his appearance; however, once we do we will post it up on the site.

Order of the Phoenix Release Date Confirmed
Posted by jenna on 06/04/06
It was confirmed by Warner Bros today that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be released on July 13, 2007. It is ironical that the movie opens on Friday the 13th, considering Sirius Black runs into some rather “bad luck” in this upcoming production.
