Dan buys JKR's Black Family Tree

Posted by ciaran on 22/02/06

At yesterday's Book Aid International auction in London, Dan Radcliffe's mother Marcia Gresham bought – on the actor's behalf – Jo Rowling's hand-drawn Black Family Tree for £30,000. Marcia also purchased a Tom Stoppard play for £3,700 and a piece on writing by Iain Banks for £980. She said:

“This should put paid to anyone who says that Daniel doesn't like reading. Daniel hasn't stopped since he read the first Harry Potter book and he loves Iain Banks and Tom Stoppard.”

The charity, which provides books for African schools, was delighted to raise a total of £63,000.

Dan sends Thank You to fans

Posted by jenna on 15/02/06

I was very pleasantly surprised this morning when I received a very sweet, enthusiastic thank you note from Daniel regarding the ACED Magazine/Valentine's Day projects I sent to him earlier this week on behalf of DanRadcliffe.com and all of our readers. He wrote:

Dear Jenna

Well, I was certainly kept busy yesterday during breaks in filming with ACED MAGAZINE. It's fantastic! Thank you so much for sending this to me and for all the amazing articles – the art, the poetry, the gallery – I am, once again, completely overwhelmed by the amount of work that goes into this magazine. Thank you to everyone who contributed. I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day!

Love
DAN

Of course, it is always our pleasure to host these fan projects for Dan throughout the year, and we always have fun doing them! I would like to give a BIG thank you to all of the thousands of readers out there, from all over the world, who participated in the last round of fan projects. We are truly humbled by the amount of dedication you all have for Dan and we look forward to hosting more over the next few months!

Stay tuned – we will be posting about fan projects in the near future for our next release in July. If you have any fan project ideas of your own that you think would work well for our summer release, please e-mail your suggestions to me and we will consider them!

Students Meet Dan on the DB Set

Posted by allo on 10/02/06

Many thanks to Jas from DR Online for sending over a scan from the Jan 12th issue of The Islander, the local newspaper of Kangaroo Island, Australia, where parts of Dan's next film, December Boys, were shot. The scan shows a very nice account of a visit to the DB set by a local principal and student and how they met with Dan, his dad and director Rod Hardy. It also has some interesting insights into Dan's rigorous shooting schedule.

The Islander: Film Opportunity For William

In a related story, Penguin Books Australia has announced that the book on which the film is based is being rereleased in Australia in March 2006, bearing the legend “Soon to be a major feature film starring Harry Potter's Daniel Radcliffe.” We do not know of any plans to release the book anywhere outside Australia YET – obviously, we'll let you know as soon as we hear any news.

The Fact Behind the Feud

Posted by jenna on 09/02/06

I have been trying to avoid posting about this – but as my mailbox has been transformed into a punching bag…

Many of you have been e-mailing me about the careless, tactless, completely inaccurate and totally slanderous behavior of various online tabloids and offline radio stations and publications. These sub-ethical sources have been accusing Daniel of saying negative and personal comments towards the band McFly.

I have communicated to Dan's publicist about this and have permission to post on the matter. Although Dan does not prefer their genre of music – He did NOT, nor has he ever or would he ever say such things about any band, performer, person or otherwise.

He has complete respect for what the band does and the fans that support them. He, along with many others, is confused as to where these tall tales originated from. His representatives are presently looking into the issue.

Please keep in mind – this is a media spawned feud of which Dan had no part in. It may very well be that the band McFly, as well as James Bourne, never said anything that these paparratic reporters have printed to fill their quota of eye-catching frivolities for the given day.

Take everything you read from these bin liners with buckets and buckets of salt! We will discuss this further during our REDcast due out on the 14th. I do NOT want to see negative comments toward McFly or Bourne in the comments at all. Most likely they don't even know what is going on.

Posted by jenna on 07/02/06

Yes – you really are on the right website. I have actually been silently redecorating for a few weeks now. If you are a member of our RadNet Forum you will have noticed I updated the skins there over a week ago. The main site has now had a bit of a refresh for 2006. The header does a nifty trick – whenever you refresh or come back on the site you might notice a different picture of Dan on the right side of the banner… staffer Cheri did a great job with the banners! I hope you all like it!

A new look has been given to our DR Event Calendar as well. Not only that, we have added the functionality for all of you to add DR-TV listings to the calendar as well! Instructions are on the bottom of the calendar page. Lots of things are being updated all around the site… fun stuff!

How Daniel Radcliffe Prepared for "Order of the Phoenix"

Posted by allo on 03/02/06

MTV Movie News' report about the start of production of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has some additional commentary from Dan about how he prepared for key emotional sequences in the film:

quote:

"Radcliffe prepared for “Phoenix” by meeting with a bereavement counselor so he could understand survivor's guilt, since his two main relationships in this film — with his godfather Sirius Black and new girlfriend Cho Chang — are grounded in a mutual need to bond with another person after a great, shared loss.

“Sirius is clinging on to James (Harry's father and Sirius' best friend) through me, and I'm trying to know my father through him,” Radcliffe said. “The same thing happens with me and Cho. I was the last person there when her last boyfriend, Cedric, was killed.”"
