Scans: Popstar "Magic of the Movies" Special

Posted by allo on 31/10/05

Popstar magazine in the US has produced a special “Magic of the Movies” edition, dated December 2005. The magazine contains an extensive special feature on the Harry Potter movies and interviews with Dan, Rupert, Emma and other cast members, which have some new snippets of information. There's also a few new pictures and several posters of varying sizes (although we haven't posted those here because they aren't new pictures). Take a look here:

TriWizard Tournament Results

Posted by jenna on 31/10/05

Some of you might remember the TriWizard Tournament competition for school captains that allo posted a reminder for while I was detained from the internet…

I am pleased to announce I will not have to wear a belly dancer costume after all! Heh. Our site came in 4th place, just 360 votes shy of 3rd. *phew* So – although I will not be head captain of a school, I am proud to be co-captain to Jeff from HPANA who came in 3rd place. (There is that “Co” thing again!!! If you read my interview with Dan you'll know what I am talking about! He must be psychic!) smile.gif

Thank you to everyone who voted for me in this fun competition. I look forward to being your co-captain, along with Jeff for the school of Hogwarts! Although enrollment for the tournament is “technically” closed, as one of the “captain” sites, we have a special code you can use in order to sign up. (BTW, the special code is: DANRADCLIFFE) Note: The server there is a bit slow so it might take a while to get on the site… please be patient.

For those of you that are already enrolled, you can now be sorted and then you can check in at your school's interactive common room. Let the good times roll…

Dr.com Chatroom

Posted by jenna on 31/10/05

Okay, I know a lot of you aren't going to be very happy with me, but the Dr.com Chatroom has been permanently suspended. I have been thinking about it for a while now. I have had so many complaints and problems since I opened up this chat… I just can't keep up with them anymore.

I know this will be a disappointment to some people, but with the work load I have on top of me right now I just can't keep it open any longer. I hope you all will understand.

Of course our RadNet Forum will remain open. This is powered by a fabulous staff of moderators and it is a lot of fun as well – It's just not “real-time.”

While you are throwing all the rotten vegetables at me for closing this down, can you do me a favour and just spare me the rotten lettuce?

GOF Choreographer says Dan's "A Natural" Dancer!

Posted by allo on 30/10/05

Dan may be modest about his dancing skills but the choreographer for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire thinks otherwise! Speaking in the November 2005 issue of Dance Spirit magazine, UK choreographer Wayne McGregor had words of praise for his student:

"According to McGregor, Radcliffe, much like his character, was a standout. “Daniel had to rehearse around his filming schedule, which was crazy, and he [danced] it brilliantly – a natural,” says McGregor."

Daily Mail (UK, 26 Oct 2005): (1)
The Sun (UK, 26 Oct 2005): (1)
The Times (UK, 26 Oct 2005): (1)

NOTE: As for that comment in the Times, that arose from the photocall the other day, where Dan says he's not “absolutely confident” he's doing all the Potter movies, remember that he gets asked this question every year and every year he gives the same cautious answer! The trio only sign up for one film at a time and so far are only contracted through “Order of the Phoenix”. Future films will be negotiated at a later time and, although nothing is carved in stone of course, all three have expressed an interest in completing the series.

Goblet of Fire Running Time Confirmed

Posted by allo on 24/10/05

According to the British Board of Film Classification website, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire clocks in at 156 minutes and 54 seconds long. However, this makes it only the second longest Harry Potter movie, behind Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (161 minutes), despite the book being over twice the size!

Veritaserum, who got a sneak preview of the film over this weekend, reports that the last 13 minutes are all credits but are worth hanging around for the little “bits of humor” within them. They also “guarantee that the film won't disappoint” despite a running time that is shorter than many fans anticipated.

Posted by jenna on 22/10/05

UPDATED 10/23: DanRadcliffe.com was one of many HP fan sites that took part via international phone link in yesterday's press conference to promote Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire that took place in London, England. Our full transcript of the portion of the press conference with Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson is now available for you to read here:

Press Conference with Dan, Rupert and Emma

The interview with the trio ran a little over 51 minutes. A few small, short MP3 audio clips of Dan talking are now available, scattered throughout the transcript.

At the end of the transcript, you will also find some very complimentary comments from GOF director Mike Newell and producer David Heyman about putting Dan “through his paces” in this film and how well he coped.

We have not transcribed other portions of the conference that featured Newell and Heyman and the four new stars Katie Leung, Robert Pattinson, Clemence Poesy and Stanislav Ianevski – for those, please keep checking some of the other large HP sites like MuggleNet, The Leaky Cauldron and Veritaserum, who will have their own versions of the proceedings up very soon.

Previously Unforgivable Curses gave us a few new photos from GOF. Some we had seen in scans, but there were a few new ones as well with photos of Harry in the closet with Rita Skeeter, the trio in the library, etc. NOW Warner Bros has released high-res versions of these photos, as well as a few (maybe 2 others) that we didn't have with Harry in them. They are massive in size, but not huge files to download… Enjoy.

Check out the HPGOF photo gallery to see the latest high-res photos added. (You'll need to make sure it is sorted in descending order to see the last photos added).

Dan Attends Ducktastic!

Posted by allo on 20/10/05

Dan attended a press performance last night for a stage comedy called Ducktastic, which opened recently at the Albery Theatre in London. Ducktastic tells the story of a Las Vegas illusionist forced to team up with a pet shop owner to put on a new magic show in London's West End. The duo are inspired by the Las Vegas illusionists Siegfried and Roy, except they use ducks instead of Siberian tigers(!). Ducktastic was written by comedy duo Sean Foley and Hamish McColl, who were the brains behind The Play What I Wrote (the show in which Dan made his own West End stage debut back in November 2002) and is directed by Kenneth Branagh.

You can find a few pictures of Dan with the show's stars in our Ducktastic new photo gallery! Thanks to Veritaserum for the tip!

UPDATE: Thanks to Amanda from the MagicalThree for sending us three more photos.

Goblet of Fire Gets a 12A Rating in the UK

Posted by allo on 19/10/05

CBBC Newsround is exclusively reporting that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire has received a “12A” rating from the British Board of Film Classification in the UK, on the grounds that the film is “much darker and scarier than the previous three”. A representative of the BBFC who was interviewed by CBBC Newsround claimed that “Examiners decided that the 12A was the most suitable category, as younger or more sensitive viewers could be frightened by some of the more intense scenes” but noted that no cuts were required in order to give the film its rating. A 12A rating means that no one younger than 12 may see the film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult. Many thanks to Clare for the tip!

Exclusive First Look at a New Dan Promo Photo

Posted by jenna on 15/10/05

Thanks very much to Dan for sending a sneak peek of his new promotional photo to both myself and Page to preview on both websites.

This new photo will be the one sent out to fans who write to him via snail mail starting next week. It was taken during a photoshoot this past summer at Luna Park in Australia.

New Dan Promo Shot

UPDATE: I have been getting numerous e-mails asking me if there will be more than one photo sent out to fans from this photoshoot if they write to Dan. I don't know where this information came from, but NO – Dan's publicist re-confirmed that this is the only photo that will be sent out to fans who write to him (he updates his fan photo once a year). So sorry – no other photos except this one will be issued to fans that write to him; however, you may see a few more from this great photoshoot surface in upcoming magazines… so keep your eyes open for those.

Want your very own? Write to Daniel!

Additional Note:Dan's father wants us to mention: If you do write to Dan please don't forget to include your mailing address within the letter otherwise you will not get a reply. Many people who have not received replies from Dan have not because they never included an address for him to reply to.

GOF Poster Book, Colouring Book, and Sticker Book Scans

Posted by jenna on 14/10/05

Thanks very much to Andie who has sent us over scans from the GOF Poster Book, with scans of the colouring and sticker books on their way.

The photos from the poster book are enlarged versions of some we have seen before (one in there is a slightly different version that shows him walking with the egg… but a very slight varied angle). The facts pages in the poster book about Dan have some new information in them… but a lot of it we already had listed in our facts page or from interviews we've done or seen with Dan previously. Time to go and update the facts page again… :o)

Andie reports some pictures from the sticker book are new images. We will update this post with those as soon as she gets them over to us today. Keep checking back to see them.

UPDATE: OK all the scans are uploaded and there are some new photos from the sticker book. Enjoy.

WB Releases GOF Production Notes

Posted by allo on 13/10/05

The Warner Bros. Pictures Advertising and Publicity website has just released the main credits, end credits and production notes for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. (NOTE: All documents are in MS Word format.)

The production notes in particular are a long but fascinating read and include a look behind the scenes at the special effects, stunts, costumes and design for the film (* warning – these may contain spoilers! *), and also interviews with various cast and crew members, including Dan:

"“I’m not a strong swimmer, but thankfully I found swimming underwater relatively easy,” reports Radcliffe, who started his six months of training in a swimming pool and progressed to larger pools until he was ready for filming in the massive tank. “The hardest thing was combining the technical side of diving with acting. I had to remember that Harry has gills, so he’s not actually breathing, so I had to be very careful not to let out any air bubbles. I couldn’t see anything around me, and all I could hear was Jamie’s disembodied voice. It was quite a bizarre experience, but I absolutely loved it.”"

More quotes by and about Dan can be found by clicking on the full story link below.

Tabloid Daily Record Does it Again

Posted by jenna on 12/10/05

Thank you all for letting me know about this article that appeared on the Daily Record.co.uk. Rather than e-mailing all of you back I will address it here.

Daily Record's Dan Article

Yes, this does look surprisely familiar. Straight from my interview with Dan, after I expressly requested media to obtain permission to reprint any of the material within my interview.

Just to clarify this mess they've created – At no time was Dan naked or did he say he was for the Prefect's Bath scene. They took a quote from my article and turned it into something it's not.

Not only did they lift quotes from my interview without permission, they did so without giving credit as if it were their own interview… and then took it and twisted it. Yet another reason why none of you should ever put any trust into anything you read in one of these tabloid rubbish liners.

I find it refreshing that the fandom behaves professionally, and with respect towards other publications and websites. I find it disturbing that the actual supposed professional publications themselves do not seem to do the same. (Although I don't think you can really consider a tabloid professional now that I think about it). It only seems to be the tabloids that are guilty. Any respectable magazine would at least credit their source of information.

This isn't the first time the Daily Record has taken information from one of the sites without credit… and I am sure it won't be the last… and they always turn it into something outrageous.

If you are disgusted by this lack of respect (and from the e-mails I am guessing you are), and disgusted by the sheer lack of professional journalism, then feel free to drop them an email at this address: [email protected] and voice your opinion… If that doesn't work here is a link to their CONTACTS Page.

Chatting it up with Daniel Radcliffe

Posted by jenna on 10/10/05

OK… OK… I know you've all been waiting for this – I know because my inbox is groaning from inquiries about it. Things are a little late getting up today due to technical difficulties with my service provider – sorry 'bout that… I promise to scold them harshly for keeping you waiting… LOL

Just so you know, all media files, including scans, photos, and audio are all embedded within the article itself… so I guess you will just have to read it to get to them! I took a slightly different approach this time around so I hope you will all enjoy the fun aspects of this particular interview.

As always I would like to extend a very warm thank you to Dan, his family, and Warner Bros for allowing me the privilege of spending a few moments with Dan during his very busy day. It is always a delight to talk with him and his father whenever I visit London as they are two of the most charming, intriguing, and intelligent individuals I have ever had the pleasure to know.

So without further ado, here is your CHATTING IT UP WITH DANIEL RADCLIFFE interview.

FilmFocus: Ralph Fiennes On Working With Dan

Posted by allo on 04/10/05

Ralph Fiennes, who plays Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, was interviewed by FilmFocus at the Wallace and Gromit world premiere on Sunday and had a few things to say about working with Dan:

"”Dan's very good,” he said, “working with him was wonderful. Poor guy, he had to be so patient. I had to do all this waffling and talking about how I'm the Master of the Universe and how I'm evil and I'm going to kill him and he has to stand there all tied up, writhing around and groaning with pain while I'm monologuing towards him.

“The Evil-Genius monologue bit – no film is complete without it! I just love playing evil characters!”

Fiennes is also quoted as saying “There's a real menace in the scene [in the graveyard]; the tone of the scene is quite unlike anything we've seen in Potter before. It's a scary, scary, scary scene…”. Many thanks to Patt for the tip!
