DR-TV: Making of GOF Specials

Posted by allo on 30/09/05

Two new TV specials that take a look at the making of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire will be coming to screens very soon (and we're sure more will be on the way soon elsewhere in the world!). First, many thanks to Jessica for letting us know that viewers in New Zealand can catch The Making of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on Sky Movies 1 on Sunday Oct 2nd at 8:20PM, followed by a screening of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Also, HBO in the US has released its November schedule now and will be showing a 15-minutes special entitled HBO First Look: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire several times during the month, starting on Monday November 7th.

I hope you're all remembering to check the Events Calendar for TV news now that we've retired the DR-TV page. Updates to the calendar will usually be listed in the column to the right in the Section Updates box, although occasionally we'll make a special announcement in this news section. For those of you who miss the old format TV page, check out the new category and reports sections of the calendar, which will hopefully make it easier for you to see TV listings by country for the coming month. More countries will be added as we receive listings for them.

OOTP Casting: Looking for Luna!

Posted by allo on 30/09/05

OK, it's not strictly Dan news but we always said we'd tell you if any casting opportunities came about! CBBC Newsround reports that the producers of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which is due to start filming in early 2006, are now looking for someone to play the part of dotty fourth-year Ravenclaw student Luna Lovegood.

Casting agents are visiting schools in the UK now but in case they don't come your way, you can also send your photo, your age and your contact details to:

Luna Lovegood Casting
c/o Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix
Leavesden Studios
PO Box 322
WD25 7XJ

This role is only open to girls who live in the UK! Please do NOT attempt to fax or phone the studios about the role. If the casting agents are interested, then they will get in touch with you. There are no plans for any open casting calls for this role. Make sure you have your parents' permission before sending your details to the studio. Good luck! toung.gif

GOF Premiere Locations Confirmed

Posted by allo on 30/09/05

The locations for the UK and US premieres of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire have now been confirmed! Veritaserum reports that the UK premiere will take place at the Odeon Leicester Square on Sunday November 6th while MuggleNet and The Leaky Cauldron exclusively revealed together yesterday that the US premiere will take place at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York City on Saturday November 12th. These are the two premieres at which the full cast is expected to attend.

No times have been announced as yet, although if previous years are anything to go by, red carpet arrivals will probably take place in the early afternoon with the screening beginning later in the afternoon. However, if you want to go along and get a good view of the arrivals, you will need to be there EARLY to save your place!

And to answer the other popular question again, tickets are not available to the general public so no, we don't know how you can get any!

New Dan Interview and Preview of Another to Come

Posted by jenna on 30/09/05

There is a great new interview posted over at that took place on September 19th. In it Page discussed everything from the Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, and the sixth book, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince with Dan. Go check out her site to read up on all of that and hear audio segments from her interview.

NOTE: Not surprisingly, has been experiencing some heavy traffic since the interview was posted! In case you are having trouble connecting to their server, you can read a copy of the interview transcript here for the time being, reproduced with kind permission:

Mirror Copy: Page's Interview with Dan Radcliffe.

Make sure you check back at later to hear the sound clips and read the rest of the story.

I just sat down and had a chat this past Monday with Dan and I look forward to posting up lots of goodies from our conversation. We did something a little different this year and I am sure it will keep you all entertained. I am still in London and running about so I just have enough time to post up this tiny photo preview (we were both caught in mid giggle – which seemed to be our theme for the entire interview!! LOL But Dan really liked this photo so I am posting it since he picked it out… although I will post others later in larger formats).

Below are a few mp3 file captures from my interview. Online quizzes seem to be the theme this week so I think I'll add another with these mp3 files, only this time the correct answer to my query below will win one lucky person a 2006 GOF wall calendar with all the new photos we just posted scans of a few days ago.

Listen to Dan's response to one of my more difficult questions.

I can't believe… In case you can't make out what he is saying, he says “I really can't believe anyone wanting to wear those.” HINT: It's something Dan has to wear for one of the scenes in GOF…

Contest Query Information: Guess what scene Dan is talking about and E-Mail Me your answer. All correct answers will be entered into a drawing and the winner will be notified next Saturday. You have until next Wednesday, October 5th, to send me your answers. ONLY correct answers will be entered and only one answer per e-mail – so make sure you think about it before you send it in!!!

16th Birthday Music Video Now Online

Posted by allo on 27/09/05

As promised, we've now uploaded another sample video from the “You Say It's Your Birthday” DVD that was created for Dan's 16th birthday. This one is a music video consisting of snippets of footage taken from some of the fan meetups that took place around the world earlier this year, showing fans celebrating Dan's birthday in their own individual style! The closing tribute was recorded by our staffer Sabine and her daughter Christina and we think it sums up just about everything that everybody wanted to wish Dan for his birthday. smile.gif

International Scans

Posted by allo on 27/09/05

Many thanks to Murat, Jose, Sabine, Lori and our Japanese friend for sending in more scans of magazine articles featuring Dan!

MK (Turkey, Oct 2005): cover

DVD & Video Vision (Japan, Oct 2005): cover
Quo (Spain, Sep 2005): (1) (2) (NOTE: Some of the characters shown on this page are MODELS – it does NOT mean that the characters have been cast!)
LEGO Magazine (USA, Sep/Oct 2005): (1)
Krone Zeitung (Austria, Sep 2005): (1)

Super (Greece, Aug 2004): (1)
Screen (Japan, Nov 2005): (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7) (8 )

We are told that the Screen article talks about Dan's experiences with scuba diving while preparing for the underwater scenes in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, how he spent seven months learning to dive and how his instructors presented him with a dive log book for Christmas, recording the 41 hours 38 minutes he spent filming underwater, a fact he was very proud of (and this doesn't even include all the training time!).

NOTE: The picture on page 7 of the Screen scans, which was an early promo photo showing Harry with the Riddle gravestone, recently caused a stir among fans who rightly pointed out that by placing Tom Marvolo Riddle's name on the gravestone, the filmmakers had managed to kill Lord Voldemort!! Today, The Leaky Cauldron reports that WB has made good on its promise to digitally fix the error before the film's release, as this picture from AOL Moviefone shows: The Fixed Gravestone

::send to friend:: Interviews Robert Pattinson

Posted by allo on 23/09/05 just posted a new interview with Robert Pattinson, who plays Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The interview contains a couple of very interesting quotes about Dan!

"VN: Did you find your role in Harry Potter physically demanding?

Robert Pattinson: Bits of it. It's a very physical part, the stuff in the maze which was done in the beginning was all on huge action sets. The hedges were huge and hydraulically operated. I got hit by stuff, getting pulled around by ropes, and Dan and I were running around punching each other so it was kind of vicious! There was a lot of underwater stuff which I quite liked, it got therapeutic after a while. I had never scuba dived before and the tank they taught us in was a little bath tub. The real thing was massive, like 60 feet deep and they expect you to just get in and act.

VN: As Harry Potter is after Cedric's girlfriend, did this cause any conflict in any way, shape, or form in real life?

Robert Pattinson: Er no, I think Dan could steal anyone from me. If I was a girl I would pick Dan! " also have a great interview with Katie Leung, who of course plays Cho Chang in the movie. Many thanks to TLC and Coralie for the tip!

Sabine also sent over some highlights of the TV Spielfilm article, which is in German:

"Headline: Harry´s final exam

The main part of this article consists of the summary of Book 4, and mentions that screenwriter Steven Kloves is said to have prepared 12 different versions of a script for this movie. It also has some interesting statements from director Mike Newell, like this one about the audience: “Children are violent, dirty corrupt anarchists.”

And then about Task 2: “We couldn´t have them pulling faces like: “I´ve got air just for 3 seconds more!” So we had to send divers down within 12 seconds.”

Another one: “I wanted to finally tear these films away from this goody-two-shoes feeling.”

The article also says that in one scene two actors had to fight against each other, but when they did this a bit too cautiously, Mike Newell urged them to fight with him. One of the two [the names are NOT mentioned] dared to fight against him, but still he was too reserved. So he slammed the actor's head against the floor, and finally the actor defended against the director, who had to get his rib bandaged, but the scene was finally as he wanted it!

David Heyman is already working on the contracts for OOTP. “We are in a decisive phase. Everything looks fine. If need be, we have just to cast a spell.”"

Dan's 16th Birthday Thank You

Posted by jenna on 18/09/05

This year we did three things for Dan's birthday – the Demelza House Fundraiser, the birthday edition of ACED Magazine, and a DVD Production, “You Say It's Your Birthday.” I am both excited and humbled to share Dan's reply with you… You can read all about it on the 16th Birthday Project page… Or for those of you that want to see his response like NOW:

Dear Jenna,

First of all thank you for ACED MAGAZINE which you sent as part one of my birthday present. It really is a fantastic magazine – the art, the poetry and the reviews are just brilliant!

But what can I say about part two – it is hilarious!!!!!! I don't know how you do it! It seemed to me that everyone had a great time making it and that made me smile a lot. Thank you to everyone who took part in it. I can't believe so many people from around the world wanted to join in celebrating my birthday.

I was particularly moved by the Demelza House section . As you know, it is a place I feel passionate about and it was very emotional seeing the kids. They are remarkable people.

Thank you Jenna for putting this gargantuan and insane project together. I will keep it forever because the spirit of the project was so warm and generous. Thank you to everyone (all 514 of you), wherever you are in the world, for wanting to participate in this unique gift. I will treasure it forever.

You also might notice a slight change with the site design today… I did an entire site re-organization. Some sections were combined, others have been expanded (like filmography), and some sections that we have out grown were cut entirely. The section updates on the right side will contain updates made on the site that aren't necessarily “news.” For example, GFHoF updates, DR-TV additions (also check out the calendar link to the left), or to the biography page, etc.

I hope I haven't shocked everyone to death, and hopefully you will all enjoy it after you have had the chance to browse around for a while!

USA Today Posts New GOF Pictures

Posted by allo on 14/09/05

The USA Today website has posted a sneak preview of a picture special about Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire that will appear in its print edition today. The pictures show Professors Snape, McGonagall, Dumbledore and Moody with Madame Maxime; Hermione and Viktor Krum at the Yule Ball and, last but not least, Harry being hotly pursued by the Hungarian Horntail during the first task of the Triwizard Tournament. The article also quotes producer David Heyman as saying “[This film is] probably not for 4-year-olds”.

UPDATE: Here's a scan of the printed version of the article, which includes additional detail on the pictures of the staff (adding Prof. Karkaroff and Barty Crouch Sr) and Harry and the Horntail:

The index page the online USA Today Life section has also been updated to include a small picture of what we think might be Harry during his duel with Voldemort in the climactic graveyard scene.

First Look: The New, Fantastic, Goblet of Fire Trailer

Posted by jenna on 13/09/05

I just got home from an advanced screening of the Warner Bros. movie Corpse Bride (very good by the way) and I thought I would share my Goblet of Fire trailer experience with all of you.

The trailer is full of action and humor. The audience is greeted by many exciting new things, among them, the Durmstrang ship forces its way out of the water and flies its way on screen as if it is about to sail into the theater itself (would have been a great 3D bit).

The audience burst into laughter as Harry turns to see the Beauxbatons students and ends up spitting out what he is drinking. They also erupted into giggles as Ron looks completely horrified after being asked to dance by Professor McGonagall (she was giving a lesson). He replies with his meek, “What?” and a cringe.

There is the awkward Harry meets Katie, I mean Cho moment, where Harry begins to ask Cho to the Yule Ball.

We see overhead shots of the yule ball, Viktor kissing Hermione's hand, Ron accusing Hermione of fraternizing with the enemy, and then there is the tri-wizard tournament announcement.

There are flashes of each winner as their name is called, and we see Harry protesting that he never entered his name to Ron once his name is called.

There is a sliver of Mad-Eye Moody giving Harry a lesson about the killing curse, poor spider. We also see a quick snap of Harry complaining about his scar hurting him again (which can only mean one thing).

Following along, we see a shot of Harry talking to a hot someone in a fireplace. There are many “eye-candy” shots of Harry for those die-hard Harry fans, but sorry girls – no bathroom clip in this one.

There are some great new shots of the tournament itself, close-ups of mermaids, dragons, and various other scenes going by very fast. The trailer fades out with Hermione's voice saying, “Everything is going to change.”

The trailer is really fantastic. Once the actual movie was over, everyone was talking about the GOF trailer as they walked out… now that's saying something!

David Tennant Talks About Dan

Posted by allo on 09/09/05

Actor David Tennant, who plays the part of Barty Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, was interviewed in the September edition of UK magazine Dreamwatch and had a nice little compliment for Dan and his co-stars:

"Did you work with the leading kids at all?

I worked with Dan [Radcliffe], and I met the other two. They're great. They're fabulous. I think that if I was that age and I was the most famous teenager in the world, I'd just be messed-up. They're so not. They're so good and have their heads screwed on. They're great kids. They're lovely people to be around."

Tennant described his experiences on the Potter set as “fantastic. It was a great experience.” Many thanks to Dark Mark for the tip!

Repost/Reminder: Demelza House 7th Birthday Balloon Launch

Posted by allo on 07/09/05

Demelza House Children's Hospice, Dan's favorite charity, celebrates its 7th birthday this year and as part of the celebrations, they will be holding their annual balloon launch at their Open Day on September 24th (the last day you can send in donations to be included in the balloon release is September 23rd). To help raise funds for the hospice, Demelza House is inviting supporters to sponsor balloons at a cost of UK£5.00 each. You can sponsor as many balloons as you like.

You can sponsor your balloon(s) in a number of ways – by mail, online or by phone – and if you donate by mail, you can also be entered into their special prize draw to win a free hot air balloon ride. For full details of how to sponsor a balloon, please visit our Demelza House 7th Birthday Balloon Launch page.

We hope that you will be able to support this very worthy cause, even though it falls outside our usual seasonal fundraising efforts, as it represents such a significant occasion to Demelza House. If you would like to read more about our fundraising efforts for Demelza House, please visit our Demelza House Charity page. You can find some pictures from last year's balloon launch in our Demelza House 6th Birthday gallery. Thanks very much, as always, for your support!

Please e-mail Jenna if you do donate so she can keep track of donations.

E! News Quickie GOF Snippet

Posted by jenna on 06/09/05

Thanks very much to both Sophie and Patricia for sending us the video snippet from the E! News Live broadcast. It has literally 1 sec of new footage at the very beginning which simply involves Dan turning his head. I have a few nice screencaps from the video sent to us by Patricia as well.

E! News Screen Cap Album

UPDATE: OK OK, due to popular demand… I cut down the segment so it's just the new bit.

On another note, many of you have recently written in inquiring why we did not post about the “007 rumor” regarding Daniel. The reason is simple really, this is an old rumor from months ago. Somehow it has resurfaced, but it is still untrue. I hope that answers everyone's questions. Thanks! weird.gif
