Dan's Political Opinions in Vogue

With the UK General Election taking place any Thursday between now and 3rd June, the British media is full of political speculation.
And Vogue (my 10-year-old son has a subscription) has a long article about which party various people in the arts will be supporting, including this quote from a list of supporters of the Liberal Democrats...
...So too is Daniel Radcliffe, who calls me after a day of submersion in a water tank on the set of the final Harry Potter1. "I'll be voting Lib Dem, without a shadow of a doubt. Nick Clegg rang me and we had a good chat. He's seriously impressive," he says between bites of a ham-and-brie panini in his dressing room. "Politics are so dull, boring, placid and anodyne at the moment. I was brought up in a left-wing house, but now everything is centre. My generation is genetically engineered to have a distrust of politicians. Do you know what leaves me cold? Those awful attempts to pander to the young. I feel like shouting, 'I don't want you to listen to the Arctic Monkeys!'"
As usual, Dan is passionate about using his vote, so let's hope he influences other first time General Election voters to make it to the ballot box. I have never, ever not voted - women died so I could have the vote.

As we told you this morning, today the Associated Press streamed a new interview with Dan on their Livestream.com account at APLive. It wasn't about anything as fluffy as Broadway musicals, but covered his involvement with the Trevor Project. The interview is already restreaming at APLive, as their most recent interview, but we have popped it on YouTube, for posterity, here. Dan talks compassionately about why he supports the project, while being straight, himself. And, yes, sniggerers, he specifically denies being a lesbian. Today at 8:30GMT (3:30 Eastern), the Associated Press will be streaming a new interview with Dan on their Livestream.com account at APLive. Many thanks to Jain for a couple of Arts programmes for British fans to look out for in the next couple of days. Tomorrow, Tuesday 23/2, we finally get a chance to see Daniel on his episode of Inside The Actors Studio from 2008, when it is shown on Sky Arts (and Sky Arts HD) at 8pm, with a repeat screening at 9am on 24/2.
Also on Tuesday 23/2, while we have our Arts hats on, the final episode of Lord Puttnam's Century of Cinema is on BBC Radio 2 at 22:30, and looks at the future of cinema...

A special new advert for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is due to air during an advert break in an American sporting event, this Sunday. I believe it is a match called The Super Bowl, or something like that, but the article does not specify which sport is involved. Anyway, thanks to our friends at The Leaky, we know that the advert is available to view, on line, without having to find out which sport is involved. It is up at WalletPop.com, and can be watched here. Watch it, even if you don't like theme parks, for a tiny bonus surprise moment. |
